Case Study "Asteroid" Mine Operations Simulator & AI Optimizer

Respecting that the real innovation of a digital interface product is in its User Experience and Information Architecture, the below designs are mainly representing a User Interface. The UX & IA is simply designed around an abstract concept for how to mine an asteroid. This is to protect the innovations created under contract but to also express a designer's interface potential.

How to Mine an Asteroid

Quantum Destabilizer

  • Is deployed over high concentrations of desirable minerals before docking to the asteroid.

  • A user can increase or decrease the rate of destabilization which can reduce the time required to fully destabilize a zone.

  • A faster rate of destabilizing materials will increase the risk of a spherical collapse

  • When the materials are sufficiently destabilized, then the Stabilizer Plug must be docked over the destabilization entry point.

Stabilization Plug

  • The stabilization Plug will act as an entry point for extraction drilling or more destabilizing.

  • The Stabilization Plug can be set to increase or decrease stability providing it has the required energy supply.

  • Warning! If the energy supply runs out then the risk of a spherical collapse increases significantly.

  • Stability can be increased for this stabilization plug to balance out the collapse risk due to nearby operations.

Extraction Drill

  • The Extraction Drill must first dock with the Stabilization Plug before synchronizing their power supplies.

  • Before drilling the stabilization plug will release stability on the materials surrounding the drill extraction tip

  • When the extraction tip reaches the intended depth, the stabilization plug will release stability to form controlled collapses that then fall into the first crusher at the extraction tip.

  • Throughout the extraction process a hard stabilized crater is carefully shaped to reduce the overall risk of a spherical collapse.

Controlled Spherical Collapses

  • When the risk of a spherical collapse surpasses the value of available stable resources measured against the cost of extracting those resources, then the operator should perform a Controlled Spherical Collapse.

  • Depending on the mineral value, it may be worth sacrificing a stabilization plug to have further control over the collapse.

  • Perform stability and material scans after the collapse completes.
